Szechuan 5-Spice Syrup

The Pour
  • 1 cup Szechuan peppercorns
  • 1 cup turbinado sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tsp Five-spice powder

Method: hot

Add first three ingredients to a saucepan and crush peppercorns with a muddler. Then heat to boiling, remove from heat and steep for 15 minutes or more. Strain. Mix warm liquid with spice powder. Re-strain using cheese cloth. Store in fridge.
